Written by Sonia Dorais | 20 Dec, '24

To ensure better service to users and a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by credit control professionals, the Chaser team undertook a series of comprehensive training programs with the Chartered Institute of Credit Management (CICM) in 2024. These sessions aimed to enhance Chaser's ability to empathize with credit control professionals, refine internal processes, and shape the product roadmap in alignment with the evolving needs of accounts receivable teams.

Below is a breakdown of how various team members benefited from the training, with insights into the knowledge gained and how it will be applied to their roles.

Sonia Dorais, CEO

  • Invoicing and Receipting CICM Ledger Maintenance training.
  • Best Practice Skills to Assess Credit Risk.

Sonia shared:

“This year, I had the privilege of deepening my knowledge in credit management by completing several training sessions with CICM, the Chartered Institute of Credit Management, including the Collections Best Practices and the Credit Control BootCamp.

These courses were eye-opening, providing actionable strategies to optimize credit control processes. I gained insights into:

  • Building stronger client relationships: Understanding the balance between maintaining positive customer experiences while ensuring timely payments.
  • Effective communication techniques: From crafting the perfect reminder to handling difficult conversations with confidence and professionalism.
  • Automation and technology in credit control: Exploring tools that streamline processes, reduce manual workloads, and improve overall efficiency.
  • Risk assessment and mitigation: Proactively identifying and managing potential payment risks to safeguard cash flow.

These learnings have already started influencing how I approach collections and credit control, helping me drive better results and improve financial stability for businesses I work with.

A big thank you to CICM for these comprehensive and practical courses! If you're in credit control or collections, I highly recommend exploring their programs.”

  • Invoicing and Receipting CICM Ledger Maintenance training.
  • Best Practice Skills to Assess Credit Risk.
  • Best Practice Approach to Collections CICM Virtual Workshop.

Amaya shared:

“Some of the key things I took away from my training is that just like in marketing, timing really is everything when it comes to credit control! Chasing payments at the wrong times can waste both time and money. Understanding past payment history and customers' payment runs is crucial for effective collections. I also learned how to use negotiation tools and the power of direct language—avoiding powerless words like 'could' or 'but' makes a difference. Plus, having a clear BATNA (Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement) is a game-changer. These trainings have definitely given me some great ideas for how we can support credit controllers to be even better at their jobs with new content and guidance on these topics from Chaser."
